AMTA and AMEU Join Forces:
Strengthening Workforce Development in Advanced Manufacturing

At the 2nd SMF Manufacturing Day Summit on 17 January 2025, organised by the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF), leaders in the manufacturing sector gathered to discuss transformative strategies for the industry. One of the key highlights of the summit was the formalisation of a collaborative partnership between the Advanced Manufacturing Training Academy (AMTA) and the Advanced Manufacturing Employees’ Union (AMEU) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This partnership marks a significant step in addressing key workforce challenges in the advanced manufacturing sector and supporting the industry’s transformation.

Key Initiatives Under the MOU:

  1. Identifying Industry-Specific Training Gaps AMTA and AMEU will work closely with companies in the advanced manufacturing sector to identify critical skill gaps. Together, they will facilitate the development of targeted training solutions to align workforce skills with industry demands, helping companies and employees remain competitive in the evolving landscape.
  1. Creating an Upskilling Playbook for the Precision Engineering (PE) Sector The collaboration includes a comprehensive study of workforce profiles and future industry needs in the Precision Engineering sector. This study will identify key and emerging roles essential for maintaining competitiveness. The resulting upskilling playbook will map out the necessary skills for these roles, providing a strategic roadmap for workforce transformation and equipping workers with skills to thrive in this dynamic sector.
  1. Driving the Adoption of Advanced Manufacturing Training Programmes AMTA and AMEU will actively promote advanced manufacturing training programmes across companies in the sector. These programmes aim to facilitate the transition to digital and sustainable manufacturing practices, equipping companies with the skills to embrace Industry 4.0 technologies, reduce environmental impact, and drive sustainable growth.

A Shared Vision for Workforce Transformation

The MOU underscores the shared commitment of AMTA and AMEU to foster workforce resilience and industry competitiveness in the advanced manufacturing sector. By aligning their efforts, the two organisations aim to create a robust ecosystem for workforce upskilling and reskilling, ensuring a future-ready workforce capable of driving innovation and sustainability.

This partnership reinforces AMTA’s role as a leader in advanced manufacturing training and AMEU’s dedication to championing workers’ interests in the sector. Together, they are paving the way for a sustainable and competitive manufacturing industry in Singapore.
