Inaugural Meeting of the AMTA Sub-Committee for Training & Curriculum: Strengthening Singapore’s Advanced Manufacturing Workforce

On 13th February 2025, the Advanced Manufacturing Training Academy (AMTA) convened the first meeting of its Sub-Committee for Training & Curriculum, bringing together representatives from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and training providers to address the evolving skills demands of Singapore’s advanced manufacturing sector.

Supported by Enterprise Singapore and SkillsFuture Singapore, AMTA is committed to ensuring that Singapore’s manufacturing workforce remains competitive and resilient amidst  rapid technological advancements. The Sub-Committee’s establishment underscores AMTA’s efforts to foster collaboration between academia, training providers, and industry stakeholders.

Key Objectives of the Sub-Committee Meeting

The inaugural meeting focused on three primary areas:

  1. Understanding Skills Demand and Training Needs

Discussions centered on identifying skills gaps and aligning training programmes with industry requirements. Members provided insights to ensure courses remain relevant and impactful.

  1. Strengthening Strategic Partnerships

Collaboration is central to AMTA’s approach. The meeting emphasized building stronger ties between IHLs, training providers, and industry stakeholders to enhance training delivery and adoption.

  1. Meeting Frequency and Key Discussions

The Sub-Committee proposed meeting twice a year to review course updates, share industry trends, and identify areas for training enhancement.

 

The Role of the Sub-Committee

The Sub-Committee serves as a platform for AMTA to engage with training experts and industry leaders. Its responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing feedback on existing manufacturing courses to assess their relevance and alignment with the Skills Frameworks for manufacturing sectors.
  • Curating course offerings to address identified skills gaps, referencing newly developed Technical Skills and Competencies.
  • Promoting relevant courses to manufacturing stakeholders to drive industry participation and engagement.

Through these efforts, the Sub-Committee will refine training strategies, ensuring Singapore’s manufacturing workforce is equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
